With his last agonizing breaths, Jesus prayed, “Father, forgive them.” This prayer might have been the powerful and beautiful moment in history, for through this act of forgiveness a whole new reality was let loose in the world. The peaceable kingdom of God was inaugurated – and in God’s kingdom, love triumphs over hatred and peace prevails over violence.
As followers of Jesus, are we called to manifest this same cross-looking, Calvary-like love? And could this sort of forgiveness actually change the world?
Recently our community explored these questions and looked deeper into what Jesus’ prayer on the cross means for how we live and love in the world today. You can listen to the sermon here.
